Article: Why we are changing our name

Why we are changing our name
Designated Home becomes Arkiv & Company
For several years, Designated Home has been our platform for architectural objects for the garden and outdoor environment. Over time, both the range and our way of working have grown – not through quick collections, but through an increasingly clear focus on form, material and long-term thinking.
The name Designated Home described a phase.
Arkiv & Company better describes what we actually do today.
What Archives means to us
An archive is not a collection of the past.
It is a structure for what is worth preserving.
For us, Arkiv is about working methodically with objects that take time – from idea to finished form. Each product is developed as its own object, with clear materiality and architectural presence. It is not the variation itself that is the goal, but the consequence.
Archives are:
-
a way to collect shapes
-
a way to understand material
-
a way to work with expressions without chasing trends
Our objects are not intended to be replaced, but to live on – in gardens, yards and outdoor environments where they gain patina, weight and context over time.
Why & Company
& Company stands for the collective in the process. Although the objects are often perceived as still and self-evident, they are the result of a dialogue – between idea, material, manufacturing and location. It is a work that is done in small series, close to production and with respect for both craft and industry.
What changes – and what remains the same
The name change does not mean distancing ourselves from our history. Quite the opposite. Everything we have built on remains: the design language, the materials, the precision and the ambition to create architectural objects for outdoor environments.
What changes is the clarity.
Arkiv & Company is a name that better reflects our way of working today – and the direction we continue in going forward.
